In a Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, Kedarnath Temple is located on the bank of the Mandakini river. This temple is ancient and constructed over a thousand years ago by Jagad Guru Adi Shankaracharya. Kedarnath temple is one of the sacred pilgrimage centers in India. In a 12 Jyotir Lingam Kedarnath Dham is one of the temples. This temple is an important temple among the Panch Kedar. Situated at a breathtaking location. “Kedar Khand ” is a Historic name of a temple. In winter there is heavy Snowfall and the temple itself is blanketed with snow from November to April.

In a small hall in front of the temple and there is an image of Parvati and the five Pandavas. The entrance to Kedarnath Temple is decorated with statues of the Pandavas, Draupadi, Nandi, Shivas’s vehicle, Lord Krishna, and Virbhadra. Kedarnath Temple is made from a gray hunk of stones.

Haridwar is the nearby railway station from where one can reach Gaurikund by road. Near the airport is Jolly Grant to reach Kedarnath which is placed in Dehradun.

Gaurikund is the base of Kedarnath and the trail begins here only. From Gaurikund 14 km lengthy trek to reach Kedarnath. Gauri Kund is associated with Shiva’s wife, Parvati, who is also known as Gauri. Gaurikund Temple and Gauri Lake are important landmarks in Kedarnath. Gauri Lake also name Paravati Sarovar, Gauri lake. This is the lake where Goddess Parvati has breathed life into Lord Ganesha. Hindus believe that this lake is a holy place and take a ritual bath here.

Best season: Gaurikund has cool and enjoyable weather in the summer season.

2. Bhairav temple:

South of Kedarnath temple Bhairavnath temple is situated just 1km from Kedarnath temple. This is also named Bhairon Baba mandir. The temple also offers a mesmerizing view of the Himalayas and the verdant Kedar valley. Bhairavnath temple can be reached via Gaurikund.

3. Chorabari Lake

The Chorabari Tal is a small lake situated in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. The lake is surrounded by dense forests and hills. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state.

The Chorabari Tal lies at an altitude of 2,895 m (9,514 ft) above sea level and has a maximum width of 1 km (0.6 mi). It has an average depth of 4 m (13 ft). The lake's water is crystal clear, so it attracts tourists to its shores all year round.

By Air: Airport Jolly Grant is the nearest Airport to Kedarnath situated at a distance of 235kms. Jolly Grant Airport is well connected to Delhi with daily flights. Gaurikund is well connected by motorable roads with Jolly Grant Airport. Taxis are available from Jolly Grant Airport to Gaurikund.

 

By Train: Rishikesh is the nearest railway station to Gaurikund. Rishikesh is well connected by railway networks with major destinations in India. Trains to Rishikesh are frequent. Gaurikund is well connected by motorable roads with Rishikesh. Taxis and buses are available from Rishikesh, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Tehri, and many other destinations to Gaurikund.

 

By Road: Gaurikund is well connected by motorable roads with major destinations of Uttarakhand state. Buses to Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Srinagar are available from ISBT Kashmiri Gate New Delhi. Buses and Taxis to Gaurikund are easily available from major destinations of Uttarakhand state like Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Tehri, etc. Gaurikund is connected with Ghaziabad by National Highway 58. 

Best Time To Visit Kedarnath:



In summer Kedarnath is the best visited. May to June and September to October offer ideal weather for visitors. In this season visitors can explore this place very well. July and ending till August monsoon start in Kedarnath. During this season heavy rain falls and landslides in Kedarnath so there is difficult for visitors. November and last April winter start in Kedarnath. During this season roads to Kedarnath get blocked due to heavy snowfall so this season is not a good time to go to this place. And Kedarnath temple remains closed during the winter months.
